Ajax sign Sulejmani

Ajax and Heerenveen have finally agreed to terms for the transfer of Miralem Sulejmani, Marco Van Basten's main transfer target this off season. After months of rumors and typical back and forth maneuvering between the two clubs, an Eredivisie record fee of 16.25 million euros has finally been agreed on to bring the 19 year old Serb striker to the ArenA for four years. This will once again add fuel to the constant talk of KJH leaving the club, but regardless of Klaas' future, this is a very exciting signing for Ajax. Sulejmani is one tough little SOB, and he'll bring a sort of Edgar Davids-esque bulldog mentality to the forward position that Ajax has not seen in a long time. This signing may be the end of any Ajax interest in Russian striker/Russian Premier League top scorer/Oranje killer Roman Pavlyuchenko, which has been rumored recently. So its looking like we will be pretty solid up front next year, now how about that back line Marco?

Would have loved to see Palyuvchenko at Ajax. But thats over now, I guess. Assuming KJH leaves, we'll have a bunch of little strikers/attackers but no big guy. Still ought to have enuf goals in us, I guess. I just have a bias for the big central striker.

Yeah, i just wonder if he would have been a Charisteas type signing in the long run...an unproven player that comes out of nowhere and makes a big impression in a major Euro competition but ends up just being a flash in the pan. I almost WANT to see KJH play somewhere else next year, I worry that he'd just sulk through any additional time he spends in Amsterdam, kind of like he did at the end of last season.

Well, I wouldn't say Palyuvchenko is unproven at all. He led he Russian league in scoring the last 2 yrs, I believe. Regardless, maybe it is time for KJH to go.

True, but the numbers aren't exactly staggering...18 goals in 2006 and 14 in 2007 to tie for the lead, all in a lower-tier league (although can you say that anymore w/Zenit winning the UEFA Cup?). Hiddink/Advocaat will probably convice him to play in Holland and he'll end up with Feyenoord or PSV and kill us.
